Did you know that women currently hold only 25 of the CEO positions at companies on the S&P 500 list? This number translates to just 5 % of CEO positions among those leading companies—according to information currently released by Catalyst, a global nonprofit working with world-leading CEOs to build workplaces that work for women.
On July 12, Northrop Grumman announced that Kathy Warden will replace CEO Wes Bush when he steps down. Ms. Warden, who currently serves as the company’s president and chief operating officer, was elected to the Northrop Grumman board of directors prior to the announcement of her upcoming transition. This is good news.
Starting in January 2019, Warden will join the ranks of S&P 500 women CEOs, such as Mary T. Barra (General Motors), Marilyn A. Hewson (Lockheed Martin Corporation), Phoebe N. Novakovik (General Dynamics Corp.), Virginia M. Rometty (IBM), Lisa Su (Advanced Micro Devices), Michele Buck (The Hershey Company), and Adena Friedman (Nasdaq) to name a few. We congratulate Ms. Warden, Northrop Grumman, and these inclusive companies for their insight and regard for gender parity. We believe the contributions of these women and the open-mindedness of these organizations pave the way for others.
